Sanremo 2027 requires human creativity; AI that replaces it is barred

What happened
Rai published the Sanremo 2027 rules on 21 September 2026. Entries must be “an expression of human creativity” (Le canzoni dovranno essere espressione della creatività umana). AI in conception, composition of music and lyrics, or production is not allowed when that use substitutes, alters, or denatures (snaturamento) the human creative contribution. It is not a total ban. Music Ally (22 September, secondary) reported that FIMI CEO Enzo Mazza welcomed the rule, said it matches FIMI’s chart policy, and that FIMI had asked the festival to clarify.
What changed
FIMI’s request was an appeal into the selection process, per Music Ally. It is now a clause in Rai’s regulation. The PDF says Rai and the artistic director may use available technical means to check AI use if they consider it necessary.
Whose work this changes
For producers pitching AI-assisted tracks into Italian festivals or FIMI charts, a commercial license is not enough if the human creative contribution has been substituted. The clause does not ban generating YouTube or game BGM as such. Not legal advice.
