A move to put AI-vocal voice permissions into delivery metadata. An AI-voice company joins the music-metadata standards body for the first time (no standard yet)

On 24 September 2026 Digital Music News reported that Voice-Swap joined DDEX as a full member — the first dedicated AI-voice firm in the standards process, the two organisations said. It plans to weigh in on voice-model identity, consent and authorisation metadata, usage-scoped permissions, provenance, and rights reporting. No standard exists yet. Membership is not a finished spec.

What happened

On 24 September 2026 Digital Music News reported that London-based Voice-Swap joined DDEX as a full member. DDEX and Voice-Swap described it as the first dedicated AI-voice company in the standards-development process. DMN notes copyrightability of AI voice is still unsettled. There is no finished standard.

What changed

Voice-Swap says it will weigh in on voice-model identity, consent and authorisation metadata, usage-scoped permissions, provenance, and rights reporting. CSO Michael Pelczynski said the supply chain needs to know whose identity is represented, which model was used, who authorised that use, and whether it stays in scope. DDEX secretariat Mark Isherwood said the firm would help keep AI operational requirements broad. Joining is not a completed spec. The public Full Members list on ddex.net, retrieved for this note, did not show the Voice-Swap name; an announcement and a roster update are not the same thing.

Whose work this changes

Delivery metadata on the DDEX path for licensed or cloned voices headed to YouTube, games, or ads. Training and generation rules did not change. No new mandatory field is in force. April’s Voiceover_Studio, August instant cloning, and March WIPO TEN participation are background.

Do this today

For the next track that uses a voice model, write the permitted scope (streaming / ads / games) and the model ID on the delivery note, and check whether your distributor already exposes a voice or AI-metadata field.
