Licensed social DJ streaming is now under an AI music company (distribution and co-creation). GRAI closed a merger for Hangout; price undisclosed

On 22 September 2026 GRAI Inc. said it had closed the Hangout acquisition. MBW, citing GRAI, calls it a merger for parent TTFM Labs (Turntable Labs). Price undisclosed. Licensed social DJ plus generation now sit under an MIH patent licensee. No rate card.

What happened

On 22 September 2026 GRAI Inc. announced it had closed the acquisition of Hangout, the social music service. Music Business Worldwide, citing a GRAI spokesperson, says the deal was a merger: GRAI Inc. acquired the whole parent, TTFM Labs, Incorporated (Turntable Labs), which survives as a wholly owned subsidiary. The price is not in the primary release or in MBW.

What changed

Hangout ran social DJ rooms on a catalog it said exceeded 100 million tracks licensed from Sony, UMG, Warner and Merlin, and in December 2025 added Turntable.AI (text-to-track). GRAI was a separate waitlist at grai.fm and, in August 2026, one of two Music IP Holdings patent licensees with Udio. After close, hangout.fm points to GRAI. GRAI said it will continue and expand Hangout’s label, publisher and collecting-society partnerships. No split percentages were published.

Whose work this affects

This is a watch item for distribution and co-creation: licensed catalog plus generation in one social room, now under an AI-music company. YouTube/game BGM clearance, credit, training opt-in/out and revenue splits are not in these documents. GRAI’s “every play and every change pays” is a policy line, not a third-party license.
