What happened
On 30 September 2026 the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts held a status conference in UMG Recordings et al. v. Suno, Inc. et al., No. 1:24-cv-11611, before Magistrate Judge Paul G. Levenson. Dkt 286 is Electronic Clerk’s Notes. Discovery status only. No fair-use, infringement, or §1201 merits decision.
What changed
Dkt 285 (28 September) noticed the 30 September conference. The non-§1201 fact-discovery window was around 30 September; this is remaining discovery disputes, not the case ending. Plaintiffs are to produce AI output testing reports and re-review AI task-force minutes for market-impact responsiveness and privilege. Interrogatory verification is due Friday 2 October. Parties confer on additional financial data and notify the court by Friday 9 October whether issues remain. Privilege-log fights: selected documents in camera by 2 October; Kovel / PR consultants / common interest on the defense log.
Whose work this affects
This is a watch item for commercial license and distribution of Suno output to YouTube, games, and streams. Testing reports and financial data are leftover discovery. Training fair use and §1201 circumvention were not decided. Credit language does not change on these notes.
Do this today
Check the public docket for the 2 October interrogatory verification and the 9 October financial-data conferral, and do not treat this conference as a merits win or loss.
