For video BGM makers: original music plus timed SFX on an uploaded clip, with separate-track export (ElevenLabs Instant Soundtracks)
On 15 October 2026 ElevenLabs launched Instant Soundtracks. Upload a video and it scores original music and places timed SFX. Audio-as-reference and a ZIP of separate music/SFX files are in the API. The post has no plan-by-plan commercial table; check Music Terms and ElevenCreative Terms.
What happened
On 15 October 2026 ElevenLabs published Instant Soundtracks (Renee Zhang). Upload a video to ElevenCreative and the model scores it with original music (a soundtrack timed to picture), then finds sound-effect (SFX: short action sounds; the official example is a whoosh on an end-card logo) cues, generates them to those timestamps, and places them on the timeline. It is live in the ElevenCreative Music Video Editor, Creative Engine (for ads), the ElevenMusic platform, and the ElevenCreative Studio API.
What changed
The stated delta is music plus generated SFX placement, using the video’s existing audio as a reference, and separate-track export via the API (a programmatic endpoint). Use-audio-as-reference reads genre, crescendos, BPM (beats per minute), and instrumentation to shape the new score. Short-form timing around cuts, transitions, and on-screen action is tighter, with per-scene mood shifts (example: EDM/R&B on a fast scene, acoustic guitar on a slow one). In the Music Video Editor, SFX sit on a separate layer for timing tweaks, music swaps, and local fixes, then export from ElevenCreative. New API parameters: add_sfx, separate_tracks, use_audio_as_reference. With separate_tracks=true the API returns a ZIP of music and SFX as separate files. Cap: 10 videos per request, combined 200 MB and 10 minutes.
Whose work this changes
People who outsource or self-build YouTube Shorts beds plus SFX now have an official path for cue-locked hits such as a logo whoosh. Composers hired for game trailers or ads get an explicit DAW (audio editor) finish: music and SFX as separate files, plus Creative Engine for ads. If clients score picture inside ElevenCreative, bundled BGM+SFX delivery faces a different competitive set. This note does not rate the audio.
The launch post has no plan-by-plan commercial table. The Music Terms we opened (updated 9 October 2026) put commercial scope in the Music Commercial Rights Table. Media Rights on Free through Enterprise Music Lite allow online and offline commercial use except film, TV, radio, and Studio Games (commercial games sold or monetized across more than one platform). Music-library creation is prohibited on those plans. For SFX, ElevenCreative Terms Exhibit 4 (same date) allows combined use only where the plan permits commercial use, and bars selling isolated SFX as a library. The post does not say which clause covers Instant Soundtracks’ combined output. Not legal advice. The UMG deal and Music v2.5 default are separate; related note in Sources.
